
DeHaven Batchelor, DVM
Born and raised in Central Florida, attending
Winter Park High
School, then Florida State University as an undergraduate majoring in Biology
and Chemistry, with parallel studies at Florida A&M in animal science and on to
veterinary school at Tuskegee University. His early education and interest
in horses began in junior high school with riding and showing hunter/jumpers
during the summer. After graduating from Tuskegee in 1974, he
returned to Central Florida and began his career in a small animal/mixed animal
practice. Shortly thereafter, he started Central Florida Equine Hospital
as the culmination of his childhood aspiration to become an equine vet.
Since that time, the practice has expanded from a predominantly ambulatory
practice to now include a clinic facility.
Over
the last 30 years, Dee and his wife, Debbie, have bred and exhibited "Best in
Show" winning smooth collies and also breed miniature paint horses.
They both actively enjoy house remodeling (holding a state certified residential
contractors license) and invest lots of their time in outdoor work and gardening
both in Florida and at their farm in Tryon, N.C.
Jennifer Fowinkle, DVM Dr.Fowinkle
lived in number of cities growing up but considers Tampa, FL her home town.
Her earliest experience with horses began with Pony Club for the essentials of
handling, riding and
training and progressed to hunter/jumpers and three day eventing through high
school. As an
undergraduate at Florida State University, she received her bachelors degree in
Psychology with a minor in communication then on to University of Florida's
School of Veterinary Medicine graduating in 2001. Her first years in
practice were spent in the Miami , Fl area before joining CFEH in 2003.
Reproduction is one of Jennifer's special interests,
after all, as she says, "who doesn't
love babies".
Beyond the practice of medicine, Dr
Fowinkle feels strongly about her
commitment to educating horse owners and volunteers her
time by speaking at pony clubs, 4-H groups and at the University of
Florida VMTH. She initiated our Practice-Based Equine Clerkship program
for veterinary students at U/F as part of their regular school course work. She
and her husband, A.J.
Fowinkle, (a practicing trial attorney) enjoy gourmet cooking and
sharing the responsibility of raising their children.

Courtney Varney, DVM
Dr. Varney earned her B.S. in Biochemistry at Stetson
University in 2005 and graduated from the University of Florida College of
Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She completed a one-year internship in equine
sports medicine and surgery at Ocala Equine Hospital. Her professional
interests are sports medicine and lameness with a focus on regenerative medicine
therapies, reproduction, and ophthalmology.
Dr. Varney has been riding horses since childhood and has
competed in many different disciplines, but for the last 13 years her focus has
been on
dressage. As a rider and working student she has been trained through Grand
Prix Dressage by many top professionals. Currently Dr. Varney is competing at
the FEI level with her own horse. She has received her USDF bronze and silver
medals and is earning scores toward her gold medal. As a veterinarian and
competitor, Dr. Varney offers an understanding of the training program sport
horses undergo and subsequently is able to better serve the needs of the
client.
Dr. Varney
and her husband Matt enjoy doing many activities in their spare time including
boating, wake-boarding, working out, watching Gator football and enjoying spare
time with their 3 horses, two dogs and two cats.

Brenda Mans, Vet Asst.
A native of the Netherlands, Brenda holds an instructors certificate from the
British Horse Society and is also a certified veterinary assistant. She
brings many years of experience in the
riding and handling of horses. She is in charge of the daily management of
the in-patient horses, in-house labwork, radiographs and data management.
